AICIP looks for students who want to do careful, consequential research in computer vision and machine learning — and who are willing to see an idea through from problem to paper.
Prospective PhD students
The lab admits students through the EECS graduate programs in computer science and electrical & computer engineering. Strong candidates typically have a solid footing in machine learning, computer vision, or signal processing, and evidence of research initiative — a thesis, publication, or substantial project. Apply to the graduate program and mention Dr. Qi and the AICIP Lab in your statement; you may also email a concise introduction with your CV, transcripts, and a short description of the problems you want to work on.
Master's students
MS students at UT interested in a thesis or project with the lab should take Dr. Qi's graduate courses and come to office hours with a specific idea. Coursework-only collaborations occasionally grow into funded thesis work.
Undergraduates
AICIP has a history of involving UT undergraduates in real research — several lab publications include undergraduate co-authors. If you are a UT student who has done well in relevant coursework, email a short note about what you want to learn, what you have built, and how many hours a week you can realistically commit.
Visiting researchers & collaborators
The lab collaborates across UT, national laboratories, and international institutions. For visiting appointments or project collaboration, contact Dr. Qi directly with a description of the proposed work and its timeline.
